Gearing High School Students Towards College

Abstract

The Leadership Training Program is designed for both high school and college students. The main focus for this project is to create more opportunities for women and minorities who are on the verge of dropping out of high school. Some students are less likely to attend a four year university because stressful worries of paying for college. One out of every four students may not be well informed about information on financial aid packets and scholarship being offered by there home universities. As a result, students that do not have enough financial aid or a scholarship will become the ones less likely to enter university this fall. The Leadership program is being developed to help women and minorities acquire better communication skills and more money for college. Students that contribute time and effort in the Leadership Training program will improve on six skills: 1) writing, 2) speaking, 3) organizational skills, 4) social skills, 5) volunteer skills, and 6) learning how to get financial aid and scholarships for college.
