Research project title

Design, synthesis and Evaluation of New Therapeutic Agents

Research description

Our group conducts interdisciplinary research in the design, synthesis and evaluation of new therapeutic agents.

Undergraduate minimum qualifications

Basic undergraduate courses in chemistry, organic chemistry and/or biochemistry.

Undergraduate role

Working with graduate students and Professor Kerns the SROP/McNair Scholar will perform studies that are an independent component of a larger research program. Students interested in synthetic chemistry will learn techniques to carryout synthesis and structural characterization of target molecules for further study of their biological activity. Students interested in evaluating biological activity of new compounds will learn biochemical and analytical techniques to determine the affinity of compounds for binding target proteins or to evaluate their ability to inhibit activity of target enzymes.
