Research project title
Infection Control on Medical Implants
Research description
About 3% of medical implants are infected upon implantation by a bacterial biofilm which cannot be controlled with antibiotics. We are developing new implant coatings, which could be externally triggered to sterilize any bacteria growing on it after implantation.
Undergraduate minimum qualifications
Undergraduate research assistant should have training in general chemistry and calculus, as well as a stated desire to pursue an advanced degree in engineering or the physical or life sciences.
Undergraduate role
To perform experiments for a subset of the project, such as preparing and testing artificial tissue mimics or measuring diffusion coefficients and thermal conductivities for experimental materials.
