Biography

The purpose of this dissertation study is to investigate parent-child interactions in two different home numeracy contexts, a technology-based game context and a traditional board game context. Thirty-nine preschooler-parent dyads were observed playing both an electronic version and a board version of a number-related game. Video recordings were analyzed to explore whether parents provided different quantities and types of scaffolding behaviors, and whether the mathematical conversations in the two contexts varied in quantity and type.
