Cells plated on a stiff surface behave differently than cells plated on a surface with a similar stiffness to what they would experience in the body. Softer surfaces correlated with improved cell health when cells were exposed to either nanoparticles or a pesticide. This change came with a corresponding change in the cell’s shape, protein expression, and stiffness. This information can help us improve the accuracy early toxicity and efficacy testing.
