Biography

Organisms readily acquire fear, and this response tends to generalize to stimuli that are related to those present during a fearful event, but are not themselves inherently fearful (e.g. fear of fireworks following exposure to gunfire). When excessive, overgeneralization serves as a core feature of anxiety-related disorders. This study aims to investigate the brain regions necessary for normal fear generalization in humans and the interaction between fear generalization and the passage of time.
