Patients with mental illness diagnosed prior to breast cancer may experience suboptimal cancer treatment, including nonadherence to oral endocrine therapies (ET). Our study examines the influence of preexisting mental illness on ET adherence. We use SEER-Medicare data, a large nationally representative cancer registry linked to Medicare claims. We aim to identify specific mental illnesses that impair ET adherence and modifiable factors that may reduce the burden.
