Sun Joo Lee
Sun Joo Lee is a board-certified music therapist and the director of Tremble Clefs in Arizona and Iowa, a choir for individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD), their caregivers, and family members. She holds a master’s degree in Voice Performance and Music Therapy from Arizona State University, where she discovered her passion for supporting people with PD through music therapy.
With 16 years of clinical experience at Tremble Clefs, Sun Joo has observed positive outcomes from therapeutic group singing, which inspired her return to academia. Now, as a Ph.D. candidate in music therapy at the University of Iowa, her research focuses on the effects of therapeutic group singing as an evidence-based intervention to address specific needs in PD, such as voice and speech impairments and psychosocial challenges like depression and social isolation. These issues can significantly reduce the quality of life for individuals with PD and their caregivers. Sun Joo believes that therapeutic group singing provides a safe, supportive environment that encourages individuals with PD to stay committed to therapy, leading to improved treatment outcomes. Outside of her research, Sun Joo enjoys singing, talking walks, and visiting museums with her husband, Min Park.
