Erin Wissler Gerdes

Honorable Mention

Born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, Erin Wissler Gerdes is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology working in the lab of Dr. Nichole Nidey. Her thesis investigates how untreated mental health conditions in parents, particularly anxiety, contribute to expressions of rage, and examines the protective role of social support in mitigating these outcomes. Before pursuing her PhD, Erin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the College of Saint Benedict, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Service from Marquette University. She has contributed to a diverse range of research areas, including basic science, clinical studies, community-based participatory research, and health services research.

She hopes her research in maternal and paternal health will contribute to improved health outcomes for families and inform policy initiatives that promote the well-being of the entire family unit. Outside of research, you can catch Erin chasing after her three kids in a local park, seeing a show with her husband, or taking her dog for a hike.
