Agatha Greenway
Agatha is a third-year PhD candidate from England in the Molecular Medicine graduate program. She earned her undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Bath, where she developed a strong interest in neuroscience. During her studies, she spent a year abroad working in the Russo Laboratory at the University of Iowa, researching migraine. This experience ignited her passion for research and inspired her to return to Iowa for graduate school.
Now a member of Dr. Sowers’ laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics, Agatha’s research focuses on identifying the brain regions involved in migraine to uncover new treatment targets. She is exploring differences in brain circuits as an explanation for why women are affected by migraine at a higher rate than men. She hopes her work will contribute to a better understanding of this complex and disabling disease, ultimately improving the lives of those affected by migraine.
Outside the lab, Agatha enjoys traveling, socializing, reading, and improving her chess game. On weekends, one can find her cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes football team and the New York Giants. She also enjoys staying active – in the gym, on the pickleball court, or at the dog park with friends.
