Jordan Mayberry
Jordan Mayberry is a third-year Genetics PhD candidate in the laboratory of Dr. Markus Kuehn in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Jordan’s thesis work focuses on the role of the immune system in glaucoma, specifically how T cells may be involved in retinal ganglion cell degeneration and vision loss. Prior to her graduate studies, Jordan completed a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Spanish at Drury University in 2021. During her time at Drury, Jordan worked on a research project under the supervision of Dr. Megan Ealy to understand how developmental processes influenced hearing and hearing loss. This is where Jordan’s fascination for research blossomed, as she was able to work hands-on with genetics and see how small changes to genes have large impacts on development and patient outcomes. Jordan’s passion for genetics brought her to Iowa to help improve quality and access to diagnostic testing as well as connect patients and providers with effective treatment options for genetic conditions. Outside of lab, Jordan enjoys thrifting, doing various DIY and craft projects, and hanging out with her friends, family, dog, and cat.
