Boosts immunity for oral health

Yan Xu is a PhD candidate in Clinical Pharmaceutical Science. He spent three years at the China Pharmaceutical University (China) and one year at the University of Strathclyde (Scotland) when he was studying pharmacology and biochemistry as an undergraduate. After this, Yan found his interest in clinical pharmaceutics and wished to explore more of this world. Then, he became a member of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa. Now, he works in Dr. Aliasger Salem’s lab and focuses on using nanomaterial to boost the immune system and enhance cancer treatments. His main project targets on treatment and prevention of oral cancer with immunotherapy. While doing so, he takes pleasure in conquering challenges and engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in industry to explore more about immunotherapy and cancer treatment. Outside of his academic life, Yan enjoys tennis, snowboarding, playing guitar, and spending time with friends and his cat.
