My dissertation examines the design of Reims Cathedral, the coronation church of France, from a geometric perspective. I amassed thousands of onsite measurements and developed a new, precise plan of the thirteenth-century Gothic structure. From the plan and the measurement data, the building’s geometry becomes clear and suggests that a uniform design, conceived by one architect, governed construction in contrast to previously hypothesized major changes in layout.
