Driven by the need to study the workforce in the knowledge economy, my dissertation examines the evolution of the knowledge-sharing networks created by the knowledge workers in major U.S. cities. Using the event attendance records (2003-2019) in Technology groups from Meetup.com, I analyze how social, organizational, and institutional factors interact with self-organized knowledge groups as novel technologies are being created and utilized.
