My work improves our understanding of the transport of nuclear waste in environmental systems and enables us to develop new methodologies for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel. My thesis is centered on the element neptunium, which is produced in the nuclear fuel during energy production in a light-water reactor. I am evaluating how other molecules and ions impact the overall chemistry and reactivity of neptunium in water.
