Biography

As the power grid evolves, it is important to effectively model the effects additional devices (e.g. power plants, wind turbines, and storage devices) have on operations. The Expansion Planning Problem presented in this dissertation does so as a continuous, linear stochastic optimization problem. Due to the size of power grid networks, decomposition of such problems is necessary. This dissertation explores popular and experimental algorithms to determine the best way to solve.
