Bioremediation, the use of bacteria and fungi to remove harmful contaminants from the environment is an emerging technology used to in place of traditional remediation techniques. We are exploring the use of a microbe, Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP, to degrade the ubiquitous pesticide atrazine found in ground water and drinking water. More specifically, we are engineering biofilms to evaluate their purported bio-degradation potential from both a genetic level and a chemical standpoint.
