This dissertation examines the central role of media technology in the making of LGBT activism and community in the United States from the 1930s to today. While literary critics have considered how new communications technology influence the development of canonical literature, I apply media theory to queer genres like the coming out novel, camp, and AIDs plays. The research itself will consist of close readings relevant texts and an exploration of the authors’ digital archives.
