The perinatal mental health literature had lacked a pregnancy-specific measure of body image until recent publication of the Body Image in Pregnancy Scale (BIPS). Although the BIPS adequately assesses the unique body image attitudes and perceptions of pregnant women, it fails to fully represent pregnant women’s behaviors. The proposed longitudinal study aims to expand this novel self-report measure through item development and psychometric testing to create a more comprehensive measure of pregnancy-specific body image.
