Biography

In my dissertation, “Memory and the Metropole” I examine three figures—the Scot, criminal, and socialist—who play crucial roles in Britain’s economic, cultural, and moral composition between 1882 and 1899 as Britain begins to question its imperial posture and internal cohesion. Each chapter identifies and validates the fictional networks of these “aliens” as they resist marginalization and imagine new forms of the metropole.
