After accumulating over a decade of research on induced pluripotent stem cells, we are now able to generate photoreceptor cells from skin cells of patients with confirmed mutations that would otherwise be unavailable for research. As a result, we have a unique opportunity to unravel the causes of disease and develop treatments. My research focuses on using these techniques to elucidate the disease pathophysiology for RPGR associated retinal degeneration as well as develop future treatments.
