Chronic wounds present painful problems in clinical care. My research aims to use poloxamer 407, a polymer that can be administered as a solution with minimal caregiver contact and form a gel when heated, to deliver depots of pain-relieving compounds to chronic wound sites. Such a product could be administered as a liquid, minimizing the need for prolonged contact with the wound site, and provide a prolonged local source of pain relief, minimizing side effects.
