Biography

Freshwater mussels play a major role as “ecological engineers” in aquatic environments (e.g., rivers). My research focuses on numerically investigating flow and transport processes around isolated mussels and mussel beds with the goal of understanding the mechanisms through which mussels avoid dislocation from the bed and characterizing mixing between the water filtered by the mussels and the surrounding water. My research results will help develop strategies to improve mussel habitat in rivers.
