It is known that much can be said about a 3-dimensional space by understanding how a (collection of) knot sits in it. There are many algebraic tools developed to distinguish between two knotted surfaces sitting in an ambient space. In this thesis, we study and find some general properties of one of those tools coming from representations of Lie algebras. In the context of quantum physics, these tools are used to understand other physical processes.
