Biography

Word learning requires associating many words and objects to build a lexicon. Data from computational models and animal research suggest that people do not just associate words and concepts (i.e., strengthen associations), but that they also get rid of incorrect associations between words and concepts (i.e., prune associations). As there currently is no behavioral data for the latter process, my dissertation sets out to investigate if humans prune incorrect associations during word learning.
