In cancer care, not all patients receive standard guideline-recommended treatments given the uncertainty of the treatments as to the clinical benefits and harms. Especially for elderly patients who commonly encounter co-existing conditions, physicians might choose non-standard treatments. However, little is known about the process through which the physicians decide to use non-standard treatments and how they learned about using them. My research identifies factors and investigates sources of information affecting physicians’ use of non-standard treatments.
