The goal of my dissertation research is to develop strategies to effectively utilize high throughput DNA sequencing technologies to identify mutations and genes causing genetic forms of blindness. Towards this goal, we gathered extensive DNA sequence data for large collections of patients with vision disorders. The central hypothesis, based on preliminary data generated by our lab, is that we can identify novel eye-disease causing genes through the use of high throughput DNA sequencing and bioinformatics.
