Biography

Our brains are remarkably stable in function. At each synapse, or connection between two neurons, both neurons continuously calibrate and adjust their connection strength to stabilize their connections. To understand this process, I utilize the Drosophila melanogaster larval neuromuscular junction as a model synapse to identify the requisite neuronal machinery. For my dissertation project, I identified specific components of an intracellular calcium release pathway which functions on both sides of the synapse to stabilize function.
