Biography

Bacterial biofilms colonize lungs of people with cystic fibrosis and cause chronic, persistent infections that lead to airway damage and subsequently, death. Biofilm bacteria display elevated antibiotic tolerance, resulting in the failure of current antibiotic strategies against such infections. Bacteria dispersed out of biofilms display characteristics similar to the more antibiotic-susceptible free-flowing bacteria. My research is focused on developing novel antibiotic formulations containing bacterial nutrients as dispersion enhancers to increase bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics.
