Repurposing FDA-approved drugs for other diseases such as cancer is an interesting utilized strategy to reduce time and cost in drug development. Artemisinin, the most effective FDA-approved antimalaria drug, has been recently repurposed for cancer therapy. My research focuses on synthesizing artemisinin derivatives to enhance the anticancer activity by targeting toward mitochondria of cancer cells preferentially. Biological evaluations have shown the higher cytotoxicity of these new synthetic drugs towards melanoma A375 and pancreatic MIA PaCa-2 cancer cell lines.
