The overarching goal of my thesis research is to understand how phosphorus ligand structure and design controls the chemical reactivity of metal complexes. My thesis describes findings from two closely related research projects: (1) investigating how ligand modifications give rise to differences in metal-phosphorus bonding using an X-ray based technique, and (2) synthesis and reactivity studies of a new class of boron-containing phosphorus ligands called TBDPhos.
