Biography

The dissertation examines international hotels in Ghana to understand the workplace experience of Ghanaian employees, who have to learn new global cultural conduct standards. The ethnographic data show the clash between the Ghanaian and the global cultural standards to be a major source of workers’ dissatisfaction, which is problematic for the labor-intensive nature of hospitality industry. My analysis focuses on how an employee-centric – as oppose to a customer-centric – organizational culture alleviates the problem.
