My doctoral work focuses on understanding the theory of trisections of 4-dimensional spaces and their relationship with problems in dimension three. A trisection is a decomposition of 4-dimensional space into three standard pieces. Trisections are a novel way of thinking about the fourth dimension since they reduce to the study of particular sets of curves on a surface or problems about knots in space.
