There is a concern that many students lack the skills required for STEM careers. STEM students who are less prepared are more likely to switch majors and dropout of college. Therefore, an accurate gauge of students’ readiness for STEM coursework is needed. In addition to developing a STEM readiness indicator for high school students, this dissertation will provide information on achievement growth of STEM majors that will be valuable to Iowa students, educators, and administrators.
