Biography

Heritage speakers grow up speaking a language at home that differs from the dominant language of society and educational institutions. Through ethnography and narrative inquiry, my dissertation explores the translanguaging practices of a group of U.S. college students who are heritage speakers of Spanish, and what these practices reveal about their attitudes towards their linguistic ideologies, and their bicultural identities. This study will inform educators and institutions about the needs of this understudied population.
