Biography

Work done at the University of Iowa Superfund Research Program (ISRP) has shown how humans can be exposed to airborne polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) via inhalation. These environmental pollutants become airborne by volatilizing from PCB-contaminated water bodies. The purpose of this work is to develop an engineering solution to disrupt the PCB inhalation exposure pathway by remediating PCB-contaminated water bodies using naturally occurring microorganisms before the chemicals can become airborne.
