Mammalian airways are composed of multiple epithelial cell types, all of which are maintained and replaced by resident epithelial stem cells. Airway basal cells are the stem cells found within the upper airways. Our work is focused on understanding the proteins and molecular pathways that govern basal cell function in the context of airway homeostasis and during injury repair.
