Successfully identifying root causes of product defects help manufacturing companies fix quality related issues quickly and in turn improve profitability of the company. My thesis explores the problem of identifying the root cause of product defects using process event logs in a manufacturing process. We use a pattern mining based method to identify the cause of the defect. We also develop an optimization-based model to help allocate resources such that the products manufactured is of highest quality.
