Lung surfactant is present at the liquid surface of the alveoli, and helps in maintaining the structural stability of alveoli during breathing. When inhaled particles deposit in the alveoli, they can inhibit surfactant function and lead to respiratory diseases. My project is to investigate the effects of critical nanoparticle properties on lung surfactant function. This research will be beneficial in the development of particles for drug delivery to lungs that do not inhibit surfactant function.
