My dissertation studies how feminist discourses are incorporated in the emerging women-centric television dramas in contemporary China. I examine the industrial conditions of these dramas, the practices of the liberal-minded female television professionals and the neoliberal feminist discourses in those television dramas. My work enriches the understanding of gender politics in post-socialist China within the context of global neoliberalism, and it also provides insights into the high-powered female television professionals’ decision-making process.
