Connecting Communities is a series of social and community-building events hosted by the Graduate College at the beginning of each semester. These events create welcoming, informal opportunities for graduate and professional students to meet new people, build relationships, and connect with peers from across the university.

Graduate and professional school can sometimes make it difficult to meet people outside of your academic program or department. Connecting Communities provides space for students from different disciplines, backgrounds, and stages of their graduate education to come together, expand their networks, and strengthen their sense of community at Iowa.

Events vary each semester and are designed to make connecting with others easy and low-pressure. Whether you're new to Iowa, returning for another semester, looking to expand your social or professional network, or simply interested in meeting other graduate and professional students, you are welcome to join us.

What to Expect

Connecting Communities events may include casual socials, activities, food, games, and opportunities to explore Iowa City and campus with other graduate and professional students. No previous involvement with Graduate College programs is required—just come as you are and connect with your graduate community.
