Informatics bridges the world of IT with the arts and humanities, and the natural, biological, health, and social sciences. It deals with the transformation of people by technology, and technology by people, resulting in information that has the capability to solve entirely new problems or successfully attack existing, persistent problems from a different perspective.

Now entering its fourth year, the UI informatics program has 23 students and more than 75 affiliated faculty members. In 2009, a geoinformatics subtrack was added to the existing health informatics, information science, and bioinformatics subprograms.

The program continues to offer students opportunities to study ways in which mathematical, computational, and information exchange methods can enable technology to manage data in ways that enhance the delivery and interpretation of data.
